I’M MARISA GUTHRIE.

I do business differently.

I believe that solopreneurs and small businesses are the heart of our communities.

Often founded by individuals with a big vision and strong ethics, these businesses aren’t just about profit—they’re about making a difference. I work with business owners who want to put people and the planet at the core of what they do.

My programmes are designed to empower them to build sustainable, values-driven businesses that allow them to make money while making an impact.

As a Business Coach
& Mentor…

  • From very early on, I felt a tension with the traditional business world—it didn’t seem to align with my values or how I wanted to contribute. But that changed as I witnessed firsthand how businesses, especially those with a social mission, could truly improve people’s lives. When I launched my first social enterprise, I realised that business was about more than just profit; it could be a powerful tool for social change. Doing business differently became my mission, a way to help entrepreneurs build impactful, values-driven enterprises that support both their lives and their communities.

I believe that solopreneurs and small businesses are the heart of our communities. Often founded by individuals with a big vision and strong ethics, these businesses aren’t just about profit—they’re about making a difference. I work with solopreneurs and entrepreneurs who want to put people and the planet at the core of what they do. My coaching programs are designed to empower them to build sustainable, values-driven businesses that allow them to make money while making an impact.

  • At the core of my work is the Thrive Business Ecosystem™—a framework I’ve developed over my 30 years in business, to guide business owners in creating resilient, values-aligned ecosystems for their businesses. Through my signature coaching programs, I work closely with entrepreneurs to build an approach that feels authentic, sustainable, and grounded in their goals. My coaching is accessible, free from jargon, and deeply empathetic. I challenge clients to rethink outdated beliefs and empower them to take ownership of their business journey, supporting them as they step into their role as the architect of a business that sustains them and serves others.

  • With over 30 years of experience in the business world, from managing large retail brands like Neal’s Yard Remedies and Planet Organic to leading social enterprises and founding a cross-party think tank, I’ve worn many hats. I’ve been in customer-facing roles, served as an Executive Director of a charity, and even advised policymakers on microbusiness. Since launching my own coaching practice in 2008, I’ve supported countless solopreneurs and small businesses in navigating the complexities of building a sustainable, purpose-driven enterprise.

My commitment to independent business includes creating spaces for peer support, as I did with the not-for-profit business network I helped establish in 2016. Throughout my career, I’ve gained a deep understanding of the unique challenges business owners face, insights I share regularly through my blog—recognized as one of the Top 100 Business Coach Blogs—and as an Executive Contributor for Brainz Magazine.

When I’m not working with entrepreneurs, I spend my downtime walking my home in Devon, spending time with horses, or exploring Dartmoor with my family and our dog, Woody.
