Brand Identity and Storytelling
Creating your Brand Identity Through Storytelling
“The one thing your competition can’t steal is your story”
One of the mantras I hear all the time in my work with small business owners is, “I’m not very good at selling myself”, or “I can write copy about another business/person, but when it comes to my own, I don’t know where to start.”
Among the small business community, there is a perception that branding is all about selling yourself. So, while that might be good for people who are good at selling, or naturally gifted networkers, that approach doesn’t really work for the rest of us.
Small and micro business owners often struggle to see themselves as a brand as they consider branding to be reserved for the corporate world.
But we have all created our businesses for different reasons and are on a professional (and personal) journey that started a long time ago. Trying to differentiate yourself from your competitors in a busy marketplace starts with a good, compelling story, your story and why you chose to start your business.
Your story is the strong foundation on which to build your business because it gives your customers clarity about why you do what you do. This in turns helps build trust in your authenticity. Together we will look at creating a brand identity that creates loyal customers that will keep coming back for more.
